ROOST

ROOST is a one-woman-steampunk-fantasy-musical set in the world of  Second Born (a.k.a Bòbò).

It's a feast of a tale : absurd; funny; philosophical; wondrous and inspiring. The show is filled with funky songs and musical storytelling narrative.

Bòbò  is a misfit who lives alone in an abandoned Railway Station next to a swamp, in a world not quite matching ours.

It's where her family has lived for over a century. She feels half-hearted about carrying on with their  tradition of making cloth out of rain.  It all seems so tenuous and not very useful.

ROOST is about making tiny precious things,  a swamp where time and logic are highly unstable; how to do something useful with your life (according to grandpa); meeting strange new friends; baked goods; outer space and astronomical minds.

The story is told with the help of props, masks and a vintage Rhodes electric piano.

There's even a possible answer to the question: ‘as we go looking up with longing at stars do they look back down and long for us too?’

It was conceived and written by Karen.

P.S.   What's the point of Tiny Precious Things?

Bòbò's dad used to say :

‘Such tiny hands.

What kind of work is the work of these hands?

Why, the work of these hands, makes or breaks the world.’

He said ‘Never doubt the value of tiny things.

To make such fragile, precious and beautiful things,

Why, it fills the world with the possibility of beauty.’
